Blog Tour: Racing for Time

Hello, my fine friends and writers. Today I am part of a blog tour for Olivia Nickerson's new book, Racing for Time!

About the book:

After a frightening car crash that lands Janefer and her best friend Melanie in the hospital, Janefer is set on bringing the culprit to justice. When Melanie is found to be missing, Janefer is even more determined to discover the person behind it all.

Through a maze of lies and deceit, spiritual questions arise, leaving her confused and troubled. As Janefer races to gather clues leading to Melanie, she gradually learns to trust God with her life, no matter what the outcome.

Can Janefer find out the truth before Melanie is hurt--or worse?

Time is ticking.

My review: Four stars

I LOVE crime shows and mystery novels. If you are anything like me, then this book will be a treat for you.

First and foremost, I found myself really connecting with the protagonist Janefer. While I am a Christian, as I have recently wound up in the hospital two times in less than a month, I also have found myself questioning the goodness of God much like the main character.

Plus, like Janefer, I also have a parent with cancer, so the ending was a real heart breaker for me.

I also have to take a step back here and applaud her best friend Mel for having the courage she did when faced with a seemingly hopeless situation. I can only hope that I can be as strong as she was whenever I am faced with daunting odds.

The only problem I had with this book was that I guessed who the culprits were early on. Sure, it is a short novella and a fast-paced mystery, but I felt like there could have been more twists and turns to make things not so obvious in the beginning.

Overall, this is a very well written Christan mystery novella that has a great theme of salvation, as well as trusting God even when bad things happen.

2017 Story Ideas

Hello everyone! Hope your first two days of 2017 went well! I go back to school today *sighs*. Oh well, such is life.

Today I will be giving a general overview on some of the story ideas I would like to have written by the end of the year.

First and foremost, is Saving Camelot. I know, I know, some of you might be thinking, was she not going to finish that story last month? Unfortunately, life happened, and that ended up not being the case. My goal is to finish it this month though, hopefully starting next week!

Then, there is my book from NaNo, Surviving the Odds. For details on that little project of mine, please click here to go back to my beautiful books post from October.

Now, you guys got a certain peek at a Finn and his sweetheart in A Finnish Christmas. Armo and Adeline are going to ride to tell more of their adventures! Some of their tales will include (feel free to guess what some of these stories will be about in the comments):

  • A Wacky Proposal
  • The World Series
  • Their Shadow
  • Science Fiction Nutcase
  • Hard Choices
  • The Frights of Life
  • True Beauty
This is my hopeful project for Camp NaNo in April. I may do another beautiful books post towards the end of March to go into detail about this set of stories.

My next project is tentatively titled the Councillor and the Cowgirl, which I believe I detailed in an earlier post but will go ahead and reiterate here, so that everything is in one place.

A young lawyer meets a young woman who just moved into a sort of backwards town to take a job train horses. He immediately gets caught up in shenanigans with his two brothers as he tries to woo this lady's affections. Later, shortly after they are married, the councillor is threatened for a case he took on, and begins to withdraw from his new wife and brothers because of it, fearing for his life and the lives of those he loves.

Then there is the case of my two sisters featured in Saving Camelot, Jasmine and Victoria. I really want to write a sort of thriller with both of these sisters at the center of the action. It will involve international abductions, shootings, mystery, and intrigue at every turn!

There you have it! Some of the writing ideas I have for 2017. Saving Camelot is a priority right now, along with finishing the first draft of Surviving the Odds. By the end of the year, my hope is to have at least the first  draft of all of these stories done, along with the SECOND draft of Surviving the Odds finished.

What are some of your writing goals for 2017? Feel free to comment below!

Gone with November, Into December (AND CHRISTMAS)

So, we survived NaNo.

Being the busy college student I am, I finished the month with a word count of just over 31k.

But you know what? I am happy with that.

31k = 110 pages is the most I have ever written of something. Ever.

This wonderful little book of short stories is only about 1/3 of the way finished, but I have utilized NaNo as a good jumping off point to finish this thing.

My next goal is potentially try to finish this project in the almost three weeks of break I have from school coming up. We will see if this actually happens as there are a few new tv series that have come out this fall that I am gonna catch up on. Then there are the Christmas movies and tv episodes. Plus, well, I have started watching Big Valley again for the first time in a year and let's just say, I am really getting into it XD

Yeah, maybe if I can get this book to the halfway point by the time my three weeks of break are up, that just might be a more feasible goal.

So, without further ado, here are some of my best NaNo snippits. Be prepared, as you guys may get more if I really convince myself to stick with this project. Plus, it's fun when you figure out how your NaNo characters can guest star in a totally different book idea....and WOW have I got off topic.

HERE are the snippets.

There was something that had been weighing quite heavy on her mind. He knew her too well by now to figure anything different.

What was it?

Was she nervous for graduation? The Good Lord knew that they all were. While they had some sort of sense of direction to glean from for at least the next year after college, none of them knew where they would be or end up in the next five years with the band. It could be the greatest success in the world of Country music, or even a total flop. That thought alone was intensely terrifying to think about.

There she is, Ben pondered as he noticed the blond 20-year-old entering their Starbucks, striding with purpose over to what had become their table.

“Hey,” Ben greeted with a simile, standing up to give her a small peck on the cheek.

“Hi, thanks for meeting with me this late,” Chloe said with a sort of an apologetic grin.

“You know it's never a problem,” Ben said as he slid a grande Mocha toward her. “What’s on your mind?”

“Well, life, to put in in a nutshell,” Chloe said, taking a few apprehensive sips.

“After college?”

“Yeah”.

Chloe set her paper coffee cup down with a thunk, against the granite tabletop and rubbed her eyes, before her blue met with his grey. “I wanna put my music on hold for a bit and go back into gymnastics”.

Ben nodded as he sipped his coffee, never taking his eyes off her, as he knew she had more to get off her chest.

“With how much time and commitment this will take, I don’t know if I can make the time I really want..”

“For us?” Ben asked.

“For us,” Chloe agreed with a nod. “Now understand I am not breaking up with you. But my training will take up a good ¾ of my time if I go through with this and..”

“Well, we will have to find a way to utilize the other quarter of your time to see each other”. Ben cut her off with a natural air of assurance.

Chloe blinked, somewhat taken aback by what the man sitting across from her-a man who she cared very much about-had proclaimed. “You mean?”

Ben nodded. “I think God had something in mind when he put us together two years ago. This is something I would like to delve more into now we are leaving college, regardless of the fact of how much time you will spend in the gym”.

Chloe sighed in an almost state of relief, glad to finally have this off her chest. “I want to explore this with you. I will admit though, I was preparing myself for the possibility of having to let you go and trying to accept that as God’s will. I did not like it though”.

Ben covered her hand with his. “Sometimes we feel a certain way because God wants us to go on a certain path or keep up with something for a while. I feel that’s what he wants with us”.

“Let’s pray, shall we?”

Ben smiled and nodded, as they both prepared to give this new pat of life they were about to set on completely and wholly to God.

________________________________________________________________________________

After making her rounds of congratulations, Chloe headed to the showers as the team was announced to the general audience. As much as she loved these girls and was like a big sister to them, she was also disappointed. She did not think she could handle the announcement whiteout letting her own emotions show.

She new she had been biased against since her injury. She thought she had came back stronger than before, but apparently the coordinator did not see it the same way.

She sighed, stripping the leotard from her body and turning on the water to hot, wanting to burn the emotions she was feeling from her mind.

It was very likely that shortly after Chloe had started her second comeback, word had gotten out that she was dating one of her band mates. Sure, Max did not kind her having a life outside of gymnastics it had seemed, especially since she was older than the others.

But a boyfriend had been a no no. Her and Ben had to fight for their relationship, to keep the spark alive since she had decided to come back to gymnastics at a competitive level. Somehow, along the way, the couple had managed to fall in love with each other. It had been Ben who had been there for her, and she for him, when no one else was seemingly on their side.

The water dripped down her body. While it would be scalding for some, to her it was nothing but relief for her sore muscles. She was a 21 year old with a 40 year old body. All because of gymnastics.

She could not go another quad, that much was for sure. Her body could not take it. If she was not at the gym or at the recording studio, she was at the chiropractor getting her problematic back straightened out or at the PT getting her knees worked on.

Sure, she had wanted to try after injuring her other knee that required surgery no more that three months before. She know she had a long show at making the Olympics, yet she wanted and needed to try.

Tim was right when she had said she would not be able to forgive herself if she had not at least tried.

Yet, that still did not help the concerned looks he had given her whenever she had come home from practice too sore or too tired to even move, let alone rehearse with the band. She felt so bad for letting her other love of music take the back burner while she pursued gymnastics. She felt as if she was betraying the others, but they had promised her to try to make it as a quintet for a while.

They had not been making it.

Their acapella band was made for the six of them, subtracting one or more of their voices just did not work.

Then there had been times where Chloe was in so much pain that she had to call Ben or one of his siblings to pick her up from practice. No doubt all five of them had come to be concerned for her well being at the end.

Well, at least she could retire with her mind at ease now.

She had not really planned a retirement speech to give to the press that was undoubtedly waiting for her appearance outside. She was just going to speak from her heart, and thank the people she loved most.

She ran her favorite (and Ben's too) strawberry shampoo through her dirty blond curls. As she worked on scrubbing her scalp thoroughly, her mind drifting to the man she loved.

It had been at the beginning of the year, during her 21st birthday in January that the two had confessed their love for each other, with Ben promising to remain by her side until she saw this crazy plan of hers through.

That was true love at it's finest right there.

She had been worried, claiming she had nothing to give back to him right now, and that she had been selfish in focusing so much on her gymnastics. He had assured her that she was giving everything back to him by pursuing her dream and being an inspiration to others, even himself.
All fresh and shampooed, Chloe turned the water to the shower off, reaching around the curtain to where her towel was currently hanging up.

It took her a while to completely towel off, as she continuously found herself staring deep into her refection in the mirror, looking into blue eyes and studying her damp blond curls.

Eventually, she brought herself to snap out of it, and pulled on her sweats, a team USA shirt that has fit like a charm since she got to the Olympics back in 2012, and her National gymnastics team jacket over it.

"Here goes nothing," she said to herself, turning from her reflection and heading out the locker room and down the narrow hallway to where the media was undoubtedly waiting outside.

Chloe sat huddled in a dark corner f the recording studio, knees drawn tightly to her chest.
Such an unfeeling idiot, she thought to herself, burying her face in her knees.

They had to get the album done, she understood that aspect good and wel. Yet, they were better with all six of them as a group. Without Ben here...

"Ben," Chloe sobbed, the tears that had been threatening to come finally overwhelming her.

What it came down to was the fact of Chloe Just not having the motivation to sing, to be at her best when her husband was in the hospital.

Quite frankly, the others aside from Nate, felt the same way.

The sound of footsteps caused Chloe to look up, blinking a few times to clear her blurred, watery vision.

"Hey sis," it was Chase, Ben's younger fraternal twin brother.

"Hi, Chance," she managed to croak out. "Nate is an ass".

Chase smirked. "We established that fact a long time ago when we were kids. He means well though".

"Does he really?"Chloe protested. "Ben gets shot and is lying sick in the hospital and Nate expects us to carry on like nothing happened".

"It's his coping mechanism, Chloe. He does care and is upset about the situation. He just throws himself into his work to cope with it better".

Chloe sighed, rubbing her forehead tiredly. "I don't want to record without Ben though. I miss him so much and it is so hard to not spend every moment of the day thinking about him lying in that hospital bed".

Chase slipped an arm around her. "This has been harder on you than for the rest of us," he murmured sympathetically.

Chloe raised an eyebrow. "I would disagree. You and I are almost equally close to him, just in different ways".

"Well, I suppose you are right," he responded, flashing her his trademark grin. "But you and Ben have a relationship, a love and bond between you two that has already proved to surpass all circumstances. Which is why I believe he will be all right".

"Yeah," Chloe mumbled, propping her chin on her knees. "I am trying to think that way. Ben always encouraged me to see the best in any situation, no matter how good or bad. it's just..."

"Some days are better than others," Chase finished.

"Yeah," Chloe said softly, flashing Chase an understanding smile.

"Well, if it helps, look at it the way I have been approaching it".

"Which is?" Chloe prompted.

"I don't think God would bring Tim back, twice of all things, if he still did not have plans for him and the both of you. That is why I truley belive in my heart that my brother will be okay".

“Oh, Chloeeee!”
Chloe sighed at her husband’s call from the bedroom. Snowden looked from the direction of the bedroom to her and whined, sharing in her sentiments.
“What is it now, hon,” Chloe asked upon entering the bedroom, sending up a prayer for patience.
“Can we pleease go to the park?” Ben asked, with the expectant look of a schoolboy.
Chloe sighed and rubbed her eyes, exasoerated yet bemused all at once.
“Ben, hon I told you that the medications you are on right now are producing some pretty weird side effects. Untill we go to the doctor tommorw you have to stay here and rest”.
“But I feel finnee,” he whined, “and I wanna go to the park now!”
“Why do you want to go to the park so badly?” Chloe prompted in a gentler tone.
“My favorite nuts are there, I am a squirrl, and I need to find them”. He flashed her a smile that would normally have made her weak in the knees had it not been for the riduculousness of the situation.
“And just who are your favorite nuts?” Chole asked, feeling a smirk spread across her face.
“You and Chase. You are my favoritest nut. Chase is my second favorite. Even though he is slightly craked, I still like him”.
Now Chloe was biting her lip to keep from outright laughing, knowing it would only offend him.
“Hon,” she said after forcing her laughter down. “Why don’t you sleep for a bit. Maybe later if you feel up to it we can go to the park to look….to look for your nuts”.
Ben thought this over for a seemingly long moment, then shook his head yes. “Only if you promise though”.
“I promise, hon. Now let’s get you settled in here”.

Now that you have gotten through reading my insanity allow me to give you a preview of what posts you will be getting in December.

First and foremost, Kennedy is going to be finished this month. As of right now, for those of you who continue to faithfully follow my long-running story that has been getting slow updates for over a year now (thank you Faith :) we are ALMOST at the halfway point. This may mean a lot of updates between my Christmas fun and getting Kennedy finished. Hey, hopefully this will get me more followers.

Then, I got a couple of Christmas stories planned. The first will be about two college students who plan for a special Christmas together seeing one's favorite band.

The next story, along with the previous one, will be part of Fath P. Twelve Days of Christmas over at  Stories By Firefly! It will be a short little story that deals with the youngest of my characters from NaNo finding an abandoned kitten around Christmastime, then figuring out how to convince his non cat crazy sibilings to let him keep it.

Look for these Christmas stories sometime early this coming week!

By the way, I just wanna say I love the weeks leading up to Christmas almost more than the actual day. I just love sitting cuddling up reading, writing, or watching my favorite tv shows or christmas movies in front of the tree with a hot chocolate or peppermint mocha. I LOVE Christmas lights and decorations. I am always sad each year when we have to put them away. I do have a little tree for my room, which my parents usually let me keep up as long as I want. I am not one of those Christmas all year people. After all, Christmas all year would take the fun out of the holiday season. Plus, when the holidays are over this usually means my next favorite thing is about 2 months from officially starting, baseball. It is usually about the weekend after the New Year that I am ready to reluctantly relinquish my hold on my tree and decorations, saying goodbye to the magic they hold for another 10 1/2 months (rough calculation okay XD)

Speaking of Christmas decorations, a while back I noticed some of the blogs I follow were doing a room tag. While I don't think I was ever tagged, I plan to do something similar sometime this next week. I want to do a post taking you guys on a tour of my room. I think this will be fun as I just moved last August, so I got to rearrange everything. You will get to see all my wonderful Christmas decorations too, and I may even give some close ups of my favorite ornaments on my tree and the big tree my family has upstairs.

I honestly don't know what I will be posting after the first of the year, story wise at least. I may just start posting a story I have that is about a modern day small town whose people are sort of backwards-living in nature. They are not against technology per-se. They are just against forms of technology that they consider to be time-consuming, such as tvs and smartphones. They still utilize cars and cellphones, but prefer to ride their horses everywhere and communicate snail-mail or face-to-face the good old fashioned way.

If any of you have any suggestions as to what kinds of post you would like to see at the start of the new year, let me know in the comments. It will help get my creative juices flowing ;)

Anywho, thanks to whoever got to this point after reading all my NaNo snippits and somewhat lengthy (at least I think it is) rant. I pray that this next week and goes well for you guys. Please pray that it goes well for me too, and that I can be productive and finish my second to last semester of college strong, as I have had no motivation to do anything at all (senioritis is a real thing here people) XD

Beautiful Books 2016

I will keep up with this blog "slams head on table repeatedly".

Yes, yes, I am back, and Kennedy WILL be finished! Today I have something different for you though.

So I was inspired to do this post thanks to Jessica Dawn over at Whimsical Writings, who got the idea from Cait from Paper Fury. This year I am participating in my first NaNoWriMo (national novel writing month!) I know, I know. You may be thinking, she is in college and has not kept up with her blog. How can she have time for NaNo? Let's just say I am a Senior in college now, and writing for fun is actually working to help me get my homework done.

So without further ado, here are some answers to some questions to describe my novel to you guys!

1. What inspired the idea for your novel, and how long have you had the idea?

This idea was inspired off a country accapella group I have grown to love called Home Free. The story surrounds five christian siblings (and the eventual wife of one of the siblings) who form their own country acapella group.

2. Introduce us to each of your characters!

I will only be describing my protagonists as I have not quite worked out my antagonists.

The Ross Siblings:

Firstborn in this family is Nathan. Nate is the most responsible one of the group, around 24 years old at the start of the story. He is not one who wears his emotions on his sleeve, preferring to work his problems out with logic. Nate was the one who had the original idea to start an acapella group with his siblings. His four younger siblings remember him being more connected and emotional with them before their parents died, but after their deaths he withdrew as he had to shoulder the responsibility to take care of his family. That being said, deep down he still loves his siblings, and would do anything to keep them safe.

Next are the first set of fraternal twins, Benjamin and Chase. Ben and Chase are 21 when the story begins. Both brothers are extroverts, yet have different ways of showing it. Ben loves to dream up new ideas and music arrangements for the acapella band. He is respectful, yet at times does not have much of a filter and can say the most random things that come to his mind. Despite his outgoing personality, Ben also happens to be a deep thinker, and loves to have meaningful conversations with those he cares for. Chase is outgoing in a different way.He is a big tease, and is the main instigater of the pratical jokes. Yet, if anyone else tries to mess with his family, he gets extremly defensive.

Finally, you have the youngest set of twins, Sadie and Sam. They both are 19 at the beginning of this story. Sadie loves to pur herself out there, talk, ad make new people. She wants to make sure her sibilings are happy, and tries to much at times to fix things after there has been a fight or disagreement of any kind. Sam is quiet and reserved. He is somewhat obsessed with science fiction, and loves it when others indulge him and his fantasies. For being the youngest in the family, his siblings see him as a "Master Yoda" of some sort, due to his ability to listen and offer advice that seemingly goes beyond his years. If someone starts to prod at areas in his life that are more sensitive, he tends to lash out, but feels bad for it afterword.

Last but not least, we have the outsider of the family named Chloe Wedge. Chloe is an elite gymnast who takes a break after the London olympics to finish college (she was able to skip seventh and eighth grade, making her a junior in college at 18). Chloe is quiet and thoughtful, always quick to discern when other people need help but never quite quick enough to see when she needs help herself. It is Ben who begins to draw her out of her shell, drawing them closer as he slowly becomes one of the few people who truly reads and understands her.

3. Describe what your novel is about!

Well, my novel is more of four, short stories lets say, that will be put into a novel.

The first story is how Chloe meets the sibilings in college. It then goes through Chloe and Ben's budding relationship and eventual engagement. Her return to elite gymnastics and the relationship and injury struggles are also pictured.

The second story is about how Ben gets shot by someone who is jealous about the sibling's success in the music industry. He almost dies, and the story chronicles how Chloe (who is married to Ben by now) and the other sibilings deal with this crisis.

The third story connects directly to the second. Ben's shooter still has not been found, and the case goes cold until it is discovered that Chloe has a stalker. Chloe sort of pushes her husband and sibilings-in-law away thinking she can deal with it herself, but things take a turn for the worst and she realizes she can't.

The last story takes place in Finland. Chloe, Ben, Chase, and Chase's finnish girlfriend travel to finland to meet her parents. Meanwhile, Chloe has to learn to accept some harsh realities about her and Ben's potential to start a family.

There you go :) It was not too terribly long.

4. What is your book's aesthetic? Use words or photos or whatever you would like.

Sorry in advance for the loads of pictures and quotes ;)

5. How do you prepare to write?

Well first, comes a bit of research. For this story for example, I had to research a lot of medical stuff for the second part. I cannot plot or outline though. If I do, and start writing, I will get discouraged that a story is not going how I want it too and start to ignore it. I have a general sense of the plot in my head when I sit down and write, but other than that, there is not a lot of planning done beforehand.

6. What are you most looking forward to about this novel?
Getting it written so I can get to one of the two (possibly three) other novel ideas I have that are more fully fleshed out in my brain.

7. List three things about your novel's setting.

* forgiveness
* family
* selflessness
* unconditional love
* music (Yes, yes, I know that is five!)

8. What's your character's goal and who (or what) stands in the way?

Two goals of my character is to draw closer to God no matter what the life circumstances may be, as well as learning to be more selfless by getting out of her own head and realizing some circumstances are not her fault. Things that stand in her way are other sibilings who accuse her of doing wrong when she has not, outside forces jealous of the families success, as well as herself.

9. How does your protagonist change by the end of the novel?

By the end of this story, Chloe learns that she has to roll with the punches in life, giving the things to God that she really does not have any control over herself. She also learns the true meaning of unconditional love and forgiveness, that it is ultimately better to forgive and forget since life is too short to stay angry.

10. What are your book's themes? How do you want your reader's to feel once the story is over?

I want readers to feel that they can trust and put their faith in God no matter what their circumstances may be.

So there you have it. My NaNo project! Hope it was not too long to read. I challenge anyone who has not done this to do it. It does not even have to be a NaNo project!

Saving Camelot Part Five

I glance absently around the oval office, unconsciously tugging at my skirt. I have always hated wearing skirts, and the fact that they practically a fashion staple in the 1960s makes my undercover work just that much more uncomfortable.

A pad and pen are both carefully balanced on my knee, as I anxiously wait for the president, his brother, and Lyndon B. Johnson and J. Edgar Hoover to enter.

Focus, I tell myself. I will never pick up on everything if I am distracted as I am.

The doorknob turns, and four gentleman, all of whom hold significant power in the country, enter the office that contained so much of our nation's history.

"I am telling you, Jack, this new initiative will do all the more to help push your re-election next year," I hear Bobby Kennedy, the Attorney General, say.

"Mr. President, if I may object, tracking down major crime lords and members of the Mafia will only put an additional burden on the precinct captains in districts you need to carry in order to be able to win in 64," Hoover objects.

"Gentleman," the president turns to the three other men. "Let's have a seat and a cup of coffee before we start to discuss the issues here".

The three other men eye each other, then somewhat grudgingly sit down in the semi-circle of couches. The president himself gradually lowers himself into his rocker, tailor-made especially for his many back issues.

As if on que, Tory enters the room, carrying a steaming pot of coffee along with five mugs. As she serves us, I notice Johnson acutely studying my sister in a way that makes me feel uncomfortable.

"Miss," he speaks up in his southern drawl. "What is your name".

"Victoria Thompson, sir," Victoria answers smoothly, not at all phased as she continues to pour the coffee.

"Victoria, what is your view on the Civil Rights movement?" Johnson prompts as he accepts a cup of coffee from her.

"Well, I suppose it would be nice for people of my kind to gain equal rights to vote and such, but all in good time," Tory hands me a cup of coffee, and quickly takes her place at the back of the room, near where the President is sitting.

"You see, Mr. President," Lyndon turned back toward Jack, "Maybe we should be focusing our   efforts in the Civil Rights movement and not tracking down members of the mafia as your brother here has proposed".

The President is thoughtful. Bobby is scowling in Lyndon's direction and Hoover is smirking in an eerie display of glee.

"Jack, as much as I would like to see the civil rights movement achieve some success, you will  lose most of the southern states in the election with or without Johnson here on the ticket if you make the push too soon," his brother counters.

Johnson glares in the Attorney General's direction. Lyndon has an active dislike for both of the Kennedy brothers. Yet if it is one thing I have learned so far here is that both Bobby and Lyndon have it out for each other. One would probably not hesitate to arrange to kill the other, if they could make it untraceable that is.

"Gentlemen," a very distinct Bostonian accent breaks in. "Like it or not the issue with the crime lords is not why I requested your presence here this evening".

Bobby's eyebrows shoot up, and Hoover and Johnson immediately shut up. Obviously this is bound to be something new for all three of them.

Kennedy slowly withdraws a letter from his suit jacket. I resist the urge to look over at the address, knowing I would be too obvious. It is with some relief that I note Tory happens to have positioned herself within reading distance of the envelope, without seeming to be suspicious. On glance is all I need to tell me that her eyes are indeed skimming the front.

"This here is from Mr. Khrushchev himself, with a personal offer of peace beginning with each of our respective sides de-mobilizing".

Bobby has immediately snatched the letter from his brother's outstretched hand, not bothering to wait for him to finish.

"If we can negotiate a treaty with the Soviets, we can end these brewing hostilities between our two great countries, along with the threat of potential total annihilation of mankind itself with nuclear warheads".

"We don't need peace with communists!" Hoover vehemently interjects. "Mr. President I have intelligence units located here in our very country stationed to take down spies that want to ruin our way of life!"

"Mr. President," Lyndon has leaned forward in his seat in a much more rationally calm manor, eerie considering his personality. "You must remember that the Senate will never approve any type of treaty leading to a mutual surrender in this arms race we have locked ourselves in. The only way anything will pass the Senate is if it results for greater losses of arsenal for the USSR than for ourselves. You remember good and well the Cuban missile crisis. We cannot trust the Soviets to do a dang thing when it comes to disarmament".

I had been furiously writing notes for the whole exchange, yet still trying to keep an eye out for body language and mannerisms at the same time. The quick glances I have managed to snatch in between my note-taking have told me that the President is not paying much attention at all to Johnson. Instead he is acutely studying his younger brother reading the letter, waiting for some sort of response.

Bobby finally glanced up, making eye contact with his big brother. "I think this is worth pursuing, providing we can arrange for terms that can assure a mutual disbarment".

"Son, you have got to be insane!"

Now there is the LBJ I have seen, I think as I try to contain a smirk.

"Not so much insane as you are to think a lopsided treaty is something the Soviets will really go for!"
Bobby retorts, jumping from the sofa and flaunting the letter at Lyndon's face. Lyndon snatched the letter from his hands with a huff, sitting down next to Hoover to read the letter with Hoover looking over his shoulder.

A side glance at the President causes me to have to hide my amusement, as Kennedy has been casually sipping at his coffee for the whole exchange. I get why he had to choose Johnson as a running mate, but you had to have thick skin and a decent sense of humor set aside as well in order to be able to work with Johnson to begin with.

As Johnson and hoover finish pursuing the letter, the President finally speaks up, setting his mug of coffee down on an oak side table.

"I also agree with my brother that this is certainly something worth pursuing, regardless of the current terms. That is why I have invited Khrushchev here on a White House visit at the beginning of next month".

Johnson and Hoover both state at the President with looks of disbelief written on their faces, while Bobby is smirking at them in triumph.

"Well," Hoover stands, tossing the letter back to the president. "I do not see why Lyndon and I were so desperately needed here if all you were planning to do was this to begin with".

"Do what you want, Jack," Johnson adds with a snarl as he makes to join Hoover. "Just don't come crying when you lose the election in '64 for your mistake".

As the two men storm out of the room, Tory finally makes a move to clean up the discarded coffee cups while I stand and make my way out to the hall.

"Wait, Ms. Thompson," the president interjects, following me out into the hall.

"Yes, sir?" I turn abruptly, turning too abruptly, and almost send us both crashing to the floor. He settles his hand on my arm, and I try my best to ignore what implications the touch could have and do my best to not cringe away.

"I want you to follow them," his voice drops at a whisper. "I do not and cannot trust the either of them. Report back to me with any suspicious activity they may be involved in".

I nod quickly in understanding, and quickly make a move towards the White House exit. I will need to hurry to catch up least the two men get too far ahead of me.
